Dunollie Museum Castle and Grounds is a heritage site international significance situated just 1 mile north of Oban. It is now run by a small independent charity (DPT) but remains to this day the seat and ancestral home of the Clan MacDougall, to whom it belonged for over 800 years. Dunollie's medieval castle ruin offers breathtaking views across Oban Bay and the Inner Hebrides. The laird's house below is now known as the 1745 House Museum and hosts a variety of exhibitions and displays from the Jacobite period to 20th century regional photography and highland social history. With traces of human occupation going back several milleniums and beautiful historic woodland grounds, there is plenty of outdoor exploring for visitors of all ages to embark on. Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds is also home to the Kettle Garden Cafe which serves delicious homebaking, light lunches and refreshments and The Draper's Shop which offers its own exclusive range of tartans and locally handmade gifts. Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds is open April-October, Sunday-Friday, 10am-4pm. Guided Tours take place twice a day, Monday-Friday and a piper plays for visitors on Sundays. Dogs are welcome on a lead in all of Dunollie's outdoor areas. accessible parking and facilities are available.
