Benmore Gardens has a world-famous collection of plants, and along the Loch Eck West track beside it is a great area to enjoy the autumnal colours too. Glen Massan is another beautiful place to walk at this time of year. Look out for red squirrels while you’re at all of these spots.

Discover Architectural Gems

Ardkinglas House is located on the shores of Loch Fyne. The present house was completed in the autumn of 1907 and is generally considered to be the architect Sir Robert Lorimer’s masterpiece. It was built at a time when traditional materials were skilfully and creatively mastered by expert craftsmen but when a wealth of new technology could be incorporated into the design. Dunoon Burgh Hall is a historic hall used as a cultural hub, for exhibitions and events. Designed by architect, Robert Alexander Bryden the building dates from 1873, when its foundation stone was laid. There are also a couple of historic working piers in Cowal, in the villages of Tighnabruaich and Blairmore. These piers used to have regular visits from steamer boats coming “doon the watter” from Glasgow. Nowadays they still receive visits from the last seagoing paddle steamer boat in the world, The Waverley.
