Take Stunning Sheltered Walks

Glenbranter Forest is near Loch Eck has spectacular waterfalls, towering conifers and views over Loch Eck in this beautiful woodland. Bishop’s Glen is at the back of Dunoon has a network of paths circling
a reservoir which once supplied water to Dunoon. Glenan Woods in Portavadie, has 146 hectares of temperate rainforest owned by the community. Puck’s Glen is an atmospheric deep woodland gorge
with cascading waterfalls and a magical, mystical feel.

Get Crafting

There are many talented artists and crafters in the Dunoon and Cowal  area and some of them run workshops or host pop up events during the festive period. For example, the Hayshed Gallery in Tighnabruaich and some of the artists from the Cowal Open Studios collaborative.

Enjoy Fun Family Activities

Fyne Den adventure zone in Cairndow is a unique fun filled indoor and outdoor natural play area, using wood and sand, with never-ending opportunities for play. There’s also soft play facilities at the Live Argyll Queen’s Hall in Dunoon, a 25 metre swimming pool with flume at the Riverside swimming pool, also in Dunoon and a small cinema too.

Visit Dunoon Dazzles Winterfest

Run by Dunoon Presents, this is a free community event, with a big Xmas market selling some great local produce and handmade arts and crafts, a Santa’s grotto, live stage entertainment and the Xmas lights switch on.

Celebrate Hogmany with the locals

Hogmanay is a big thing in Scotland. There is even an extra bank holiday here on 2nd January to allow people to fully enjoy bringing in the New Year. There is always a variety of Hogmanay celebrations happening across Dunoon and Cowal. Examples are a family disco at Live Argyll’s Queen’s Hall, a ceilidh at the Dunoon Burgh Hall and other offerings at restaurants/hotels across the area.

Savour a Burns Supper

Every year there is a variety of Burns Supper offerings available in the local pubs and restaurants in the area, some of which will perform the address to the haggis, a poem written by Robert Burns.
