Winter Activities in the Heart of Argyll

All of which comes to life in winter when nature offers spectacular sunrises and sunsets and dramatic weather to enjoy.
Wonderful Wildlife
Bird watching is one of the most rewarding winter activities, especially for migratory birds that have come to the area to over winter.
Places such as the River Add, Crinan Canal and National Nature Reserves at Taynish and Moine Mhor are all good places to start exploring.

The Argyll Bird Club is open to new members for a small fee (you don’t have to live in Argyll) which allows you to join both field trips (usually monthly) and to attend indoor events.
Winter Beaver Walks is a must do also. Experience these wonderful and protected creatures in their natural habitat at Argyll Beaver Centre.

Art Exhibitions and Cultural Events
A great time of year to soak up local events and enjoy the relaxed pace of winter.
- Kilmartin Museum – free online evening talks start on February 19th may be of interest to those planning to visit as well as those living locally
- Seanchas sgibinis – February 28th at Skipness. Cultural event for Gaelic speakers and beginners (Kintyre). Free Tickets on Eventbrite
- Ensemble Renard at Kilmory Castle, Lochgilphead, Saturday 8th March, ticket information available via MAAA
- Continuous Art Exhibitions at the Dochas Carers Centre, Lochgilphead. Winter /Spring: Arthur Ker will be exhibiting until the end of February followed with an exhibition by Ann Thomas from March to May.
- Continuous Art Exhibitions from local artists at The Archway, Lochgilphead.
- Continuous Art Exhibitions from local artists at The Old Library, Tarbert.
- The Harbour Galleries in Tarbert and Inveraray showcasing works by the late Stuart Herd.
Activities to keep you warm in winter
Being outside can be very therapeutic in winter, if you are prepared and organised with the right equipment and ready for the thrill of adventure.
There's so much on offer in the Heart of Argyll in the great outdoors:
